Greetings,

Thanksgiving dinner brought a little something extra for many people – we saw a wave of viral infections, either the flu or COVID. We expect to see a replay after Christmas and the New Year because people will be gathering again in what amounts to small super spreader events. Are you ready to attack such an infection on the first day you start feeling symptoms? Give us a call and we’ll get your medicine cabinet stocked.

Is it the flu, or is it COVID? That’s a great question. The list of symptoms is very similar. Both target the respiratory system. The treatment is similar because both are viral infections.

When people call us to say they have COVID or the flu, or want preventive measures, we usually are able to get the medications to them within 24 hours.

The last 2 ½ years have taught us the value of the Nobel prize-winning multi-tasker drug called ivermectin. It has proved to be surprisingly effective against both the COVID virus and the flu virus. We are able to source it and other effective medications from local, independent pharmacies. If you call us now, you can stock your medicine cabinet with the essentials so you are ready for the holidays.

Why are the holidays such efficient transmitters of viral infections? There’s the fact many people tend to gather in indoor spaces – that’s the super spreader part. But there is also the sugar part. Sugar is in many holiday dishes, and it does a number on the immune system. Studies show that 25 grams of sugar suppresses 90% of the immune system for 5 hours or longer. One slice of pecan pie typically has about 31 grams of sugar. But before you got to that slice of pie, you probably ingested sugar in sauces, a glass or two of wine, the starchy carbohydrates…

Here’s a simple desert recipe idea that goes easy on the sugar: (adobe stock 42611054)

  • Rinse and dry 1 pint of strawberries (about 25)
  • Break up 2 cups worth of an 80% dark chocolate bar in a pan and melt it
  • Add a tablespoon of coconut oil or butter to give the chocolate the quality of a hardened “shell”
  • Dip each berry in the sauce, place on a cookie sheet, and refrigerate for half-hour
